Funsani, one of the youngsters at the home recently completed a Gap Year Programme with GLO Zambia, a local ministry. He wrote the blog below to share his experience.
Hey! I just finished the GLO Zambia Gap Year Programme, where I learnt a lot of useful skills like how to live and interact with different types of people, and practical skills like agriculture, media, sign language, first aid, and baking. I learnt how to work successfully with people as part of a team, including how to understand different perspectives, how to overcome difficult challenges that come our way in life, and how to stand up for yourself and what you believe in. My time at GLO Zambia really helped me to discover a lot of positive things about myself and how I would like to live my life. I learnt about Christianity and how to live as a Christian, including listening, interpreting, and acting on the teachings from the church, such as:
Helping others in need
Mental Health
Relationships
Theology
How to read the Bible
Evangelism
The role of the church
Children ministry
Public speaking
All in all, GLO is really a good place to be! One thing that really stood out for me was how much my timekeeping improved. Before going to GLO I was really poor at timekeeping, but since GLO I’ve learnt how to manage my time better. I recently finished writing my GCE exams. While I wait for my results, I plan to go back to GLO as a volunteer, which I hope will give me a different perspective, and help me to continue my personal growth journey! 😊
